The answer to how to get paid on Etsy has three parts. Etsy collects the buyer’s money, takes its fees, then sends what’s left to your bank on a schedule you choose. New shops wait longer for the first few weeks, and sellers in some countries are paid through Payoneer instead of a bank. Once Tom understood the timeline, his deposits stopped being a surprise.
To get paid on Etsy, you set up Etsy Payments with a bank account, a billing card and an identity check. Buyers pay Etsy, Etsy takes its fees, and your earnings go to your Payment account. Etsy then deposits them to your bank daily, weekly, every two weeks or monthly. New sellers usually wait about 14 days after each sale.

How Do You Get Paid With Etsy?
You get paid with Etsy through Etsy Payments. The buyer pays Etsy, whichever method they choose. Etsy holds the money in your Payment account until the sale clears, takes its fees, and deposits the rest to your bank account on your schedule. In Payoneer countries, the money goes to your Payoneer account instead.
- The buyer pays: by card, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Klarna or another method. Every one of these is processed by Etsy.
- The sale waits in Pending: your earnings sit there, with their fees attached, until the sale clears.
- The money moves to Current: once cleared, it’s ready for deposit.
- Etsy deposits it: on your deposit schedule, to your bank or Payoneer account.
Buyers can choose from every method Etsy offers in their country, so you don’t set up PayPal or card processing yourself. Our guide to Etsy payment methods lists them all. PayPal orders follow the same path. Etsy says it can’t send sale funds to a PayPal account, which is why can Etsy pay you through PayPal always gets a no.
How to Set Up Etsy Payments
You set up Etsy Payments while opening your shop at Etsy.com/sell, or later under Shop Manager, then Finances, then Payment settings. You need a bank account in an eligible country, a debit or credit card for billing, a residential address and a government ID. Etsy says the setup should take less than 10 minutes.
- Choose your shop’s language, country and currency.
- Pick your bank’s country and your seller type: individual or sole proprietor, or incorporated business.
- Connect your bank. US sellers use Plaid, Payoneer-country sellers connect Payoneer, and others enter bank details by hand.
- Enter your personal details, such as name, date of birth, home address and, in the US, your SSN.
- Verify your identity with Persona, using a government ID that matches the name on your bank account plus a selfie.
- Add a debit or credit card for billing and turn on two-factor authentication.
- Pay the one-time, non-refundable shop set-up fee and open your shop.
Etsy doesn’t publish one fixed set-up fee. Its fees policy says the fee is charged during onboarding and that Etsy may change or waive it, so check the amount on the final setup screen. Etsy’s help page on how to open an Etsy shop walks through each screen.
Bank Verification Inside and Outside the US
US bank accounts are verified through Plaid during setup, either instantly with an online banking login or with a $0.01 test deposit. Sellers outside the US verify in Shop Manager after the first sale, usually starting within 30 days and finishing within 60. Miss the deadline and Etsy can suspend the shop, so do it the week your first order arrives.
If Etsy can’t verify you, it asks for more information, usually a clearer ID or a bank document, by email and in Shop Manager. The details on your ID must match what you entered during setup. Sellers in Payoneer countries who enroll as individuals verify their identity with Payoneer rather than Etsy.
Etsy Deposit Schedules, Minimums and Timing
Etsy deposits your money daily, weekly, every two weeks or monthly, and most sellers choose weekly. Weekly deposits go out on Mondays. Standard deposits take 1 to 5 business days to reach your bank, and weekends or holidays push them to the next business day. Change the schedule under Finances, then Payment settings.
| Schedule | When Etsy sends money | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Daily | Each day your Current balance passes the minimum (USD 25, EUR 20 or GBP 15) | Busy shops that need steady cash flow |
| Weekly | Every Monday | Most sellers, and the setting new shops start on |
| Every two weeks | Every other week | Shops that want fewer, larger deposits |
| Monthly | Once a month | Small shops in countries that charge deposit fees |
| Instant transfer (US beta) | On request, arrives in about 30 minutes | Urgent cash, for a 1% fee of $0.25 to $1, $25 to $500 per transfer |
Some countries also charge a small deposit fee on payouts below a set threshold. If yours does, a weekly or monthly schedule lets your balance build past the threshold so you skip the fee.
Your First Sales: Why New Sellers Wait Longer
Etsy says new sellers generally have funds eligible for deposit 14 days after a sale. Established shops in good standing may be paid as soon as the next business day. Until a sale clears, it sits in your Pending balance with its fees attached, and Etsy can’t deposit anything from Pending.
Etsy can also place a reserve on a new shop, holding part of each physical sale until tracking shows the order is in transit. Etsy says most reserves end within 90 days, and Star Sellers don’t get them. Adding tracking to every order the day you ship is the fastest way to get your money moving.
Why There’s No Withdraw Button After Your First Sale
Etsy doesn’t have a withdraw button. It sends money automatically on your deposit schedule once a sale moves from Pending to Current. Request it now or Start a transfer only appear when your Current balance is positive and your shop is eligible. Until then, a new shop with sales and no payout option is normal.
To see when a sale will be paid, download your monthly statement CSV from your Payment account. Its Availability Date column shows the estimated release date for each reserved sale, and released funds become available at 6pm ET that day. Orders on hold also carry an “Order in reserve” badge on your Orders page.
Shipping labels, ads and listing fees come out of your Current balance straight away, so early on it can dip below zero even while sales are pending. If a deposit doesn’t arrive when you expect, our guide on what to do when your Etsy payment account is not working covers the seven usual causes.
Etsy Payment Methods for Payoneer Countries
Sellers in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, China, Egypt, Georgia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Peru, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Ukraine and the UAE join Etsy Payments with a Payoneer account. Etsy deposits their earnings into Payoneer, on Mondays only, and the seller withdraws from Payoneer to a local bank. Payoneer’s own withdrawal minimums and fees apply.
Your buyers still see every payment method Etsy offers in their country, including PayPal. You don’t need a PayPal account to receive those orders. Etsy’s help page on what Etsy Payments is keeps the current Payoneer country list. Sellers in India are paid the same way: Etsy sends US dollars to Payoneer every Monday, and Payoneer converts them to rupees. Etsy’s page on accepting payments as a seller in India adds two rules. Indian shops need a valid GSTIN, and they can only sell to buyers outside India for now.
Getting Paid on Etsy From Pakistan
A seller in Lahore or Karachi needs a verified Payoneer account before opening the shop, because Etsy connects it during setup. Open it in your own name, matching your CNIC and the name you’ll give Etsy. Our guide on how to create a Payoneer account in Pakistan covers the documents.
Once Etsy sends a payout, it’s Payoneer’s to track. Our guide on how to receive money with Payoneer explains withdrawals to a Pakistani bank. If you also get paid outside Etsy, our Wise vs Payoneer comparison shows which works where.
How to Set Up Billing on Etsy
To set up billing on Etsy, open Shop Manager, then Finances, then Payment settings, and select Billing. Add or edit a debit or credit card there. Etsy needs a valid card on file for most shops, and a non-reloadable prepaid card can’t be your only or main card. In the Seller app, go to More, then Finances.
Most months you won’t be billed at all, because Etsy takes its fees from your sales. You only owe money when your fees, ads and labels add up to more than you earned. That amount due can be paid between the 1st and the 15th of the month by card, prepaid card or PayPal. US shops can turn on autobilling, which charges your card on the 1st.
Don’t let an amount due go unpaid. Etsy can suspend a shop for an overdue balance, and a suspended shop can’t sell. Pay the amount due on Etsy.com and Etsy reinstates the account automatically, unless it was suspended for another reason as well.
What Etsy Takes Before You Get Paid
Before you get paid, Etsy takes three main fees. There’s a $0.20 listing fee per item, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping and gift wrap, and a payment processing fee. In the US that processing fee is 3% plus $0.25 per order. Some countries add a regulatory operating fee, and listing in a different currency costs 2.5%.
| A $50 order to a buyer in Oregon | Amount |
|---|---|
| Cutting board price | $40.00 |
| Shipping charged to the buyer | $10.00 |
| Order total (Oregon has no sales tax) | $50.00 |
| Listing fee | minus $0.20 |
| Transaction fee, 6.5% of $50 | minus $3.25 |
| Payment processing fee, 3% of $50 plus $0.25 | minus $1.75 |
| What reaches the seller’s Payment account | $44.80 |
| Bank account location | Payment processing fee per order |
|---|---|
| United States | 3% + $0.25 |
| United Kingdom | 4% + £0.20 |
| Canada | 3% + CA$0.25 on domestic and US orders, 4% + CA$0.25 on others |
| Australia | 3% + A$0.25 on domestic orders, 4% + A$0.25 on others |
| India | 5% + ₹25 |
| United Arab Emirates | 6.5% + $0.30 |
Refunds come out of your Payment account balance. When you refund a sale, Etsy credits back the payment processing fee in proportion to the amount refunded, so a full refund returns the whole processing fee. Every payment method costs you the same processing fee, so a PayPal or Klarna order pays out exactly like a card order. If you also sell on your own website, the fees work differently. See how Stripe and PayPal fees compare before you pick a processor there.
Frequently Asked Questions
Short answers to the payout questions new Etsy sellers ask most.
How do I get paid by Etsy?
Etsy pays you through Etsy Payments. Buyers pay Etsy, your earnings land in your Payment account, and Etsy deposits them to your bank or Payoneer account on your chosen schedule. You set this up when you open your shop by connecting a bank account, adding a billing card and verifying your identity. Etsy doesn’t pay sellers to PayPal or to a card.
How long does it take to get paid on Etsy?
New sellers generally have funds eligible for deposit 14 days after a sale. Established shops can be paid as soon as the next business day. After Etsy sends a deposit, it takes 1 to 5 business days to reach your bank. Weekly deposits go out on Mondays, and a reserve or a recent bank change can add extra days to your first payouts.
Does Etsy pay you weekly or monthly?
You choose. Etsy offers daily, weekly, every-two-weeks and monthly deposits, and most sellers pick weekly, which pays out on Mondays. Daily deposits only go out once your Current balance passes a minimum, such as USD 25. Change your schedule anytime in Shop Manager under Finances, then Payment settings. Payoneer sellers can only receive Etsy deposits on Mondays, whatever schedule they pick.
Can Etsy pay me through PayPal?
No. Etsy says it can’t send sale funds to a PayPal account or to a credit or debit card. Buyers can still pay you with PayPal, but that money goes to your Etsy Payment account and then to your bank or Payoneer account. Only a few older shops with standalone PayPal still receive some orders directly in PayPal, and they pay PayPal’s fees on them.
Do I need a bank account to sell on Etsy?
Yes, in most countries. Etsy deposits your earnings into a bank account in an eligible country, and the name must match your ID. In Payoneer countries such as Pakistan and the UAE, you connect a Payoneer account instead, then withdraw to your local bank from there. You also need a debit or credit card on file for billing, and a non-reloadable prepaid card can’t be your only card.
How much does Etsy take from each sale?
For a US seller, Etsy takes a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping, and a 3% plus $0.25 payment processing fee. On a $50 order with no sales tax, that’s $5.20, leaving $44.80. Shipping labels, ads and any regulatory or currency conversion fees come on top, depending on your country. Price your items with all of these in mind.
Can I sell on Etsy from Pakistan?
Yes. Pakistan is one of the countries where Etsy Payments runs through Payoneer. You need a verified Payoneer account in your own name, a debit or credit card for billing and a government ID that matches. Etsy deposits your earnings to Payoneer on Mondays, and you withdraw them to a Pakistani bank from your Payoneer account. Payoneer charges its own fees on those withdrawals.
Is it safe to connect my bank account to Etsy?
Yes, for the purpose Etsy uses it. Etsy verifies US bank accounts through Plaid and requires two-factor authentication on seller accounts. Buyers pay Etsy, so they never see your bank details. The real risk is phishing. Real Etsy notices appear in Shop Manager, so never enter your bank or login details through a link a buyer or caller sends you.
Why haven’t I been paid for my first Etsy sale?
Most likely because the sale is still in Pending. New sellers usually wait about 14 days after a sale before it can be deposited. A reserve, a negative Current balance from shipping labels, or an unverified bank account can add more time. Check Finances, then Payment account, to see your Current and Pending balances and any banner asking you to act.
How to Get Paid on Etsy Without Surprises
Tom’s first deposit landed about two and a half weeks after that Tuesday sale, minus the fees he’d now worked out to the cent. He switched on tracking for every order, kept weekly deposits, and stopped buying shipping labels before his sales cleared. By his second month, his Monday deposits were arriving like clockwork.
Learning how to get paid on Etsy comes down to five steps. Set up Etsy Payments with a matching bank account and ID, and add a billing card. Pick a deposit schedule that suits your cash flow, and expect a 14-day wait while your shop is new. Keep tracking on every order so reserves lift fast. Which schedule fits your shop best right now?
